Getting Started
This site is a bit of a wiki and a bit of a blog, in so much that it is for the community to contribute and collaborate and to encourage dialogue.
The intention of the site is to:
- encourage collaboration
- create a ‘hub’ which links aspects of Warrandyte life together
- promote organisations and businesses to a wider audience within the community
- be family friendly – all content will be ‘moderated’ before it is posted to avoid as far as possible ‘offensive web-behaviour’
The site has no ambition to compete with other sites, publications, organisations or businesses. Wherever possible we shall ‘link’ to those sites rater than duplicate content.
Like any social group, a site like this is ‘organic’.
Warrandyte Chat has only just started and has managed to recruit a few members. It will be up to those members and visitors to spread the word to family and friends.
Equally importantly, the site relies upon it’s members to generate the content, without which, the site will whither and die.
How the site will grow in numbers and the direction of the content cannot be predicted. It will depend upon the interests and enthusiasm of the members.
However, it is not driven by a committee or a constitution, it is a very agile form which can respond within minutes and hours.
Registration
Being a web-site, Warrandyte Chat is vulnerable to the same threats that exist on the Internet from ’spammers’ and malicious behaviours. Consequently, we have a number of measures to counteract these threats.
You will see ‘Bad Behaviour’ and ‘Akismet’ in places around the site which are tools which are preventing automated malicious attacks.
Our registration process is also a counter-measure. You are asked to provide you name, which will not be visible on the Site unless you choose to expose it. You are asked to provide a name which will be visible but should maintain anonymity (‘Gromit’ and ‘Silkworm’) are our first members.
Choose a password which you can remember. To be strong, it should not be just a dictionary word but contain numbers and upper and lowercase characters.
Also you are required to provide a genuine email address. A verification email will be sent to the address with a link in it. By clicking on the link you are verifying that you are the person that has registered and the login window will open.
