You are invited to come help assist the Kinglake Rangers and Friends of Warrandyte State Park to create a link between the severely fire affected Kinglake National Park and the unburnt Warrandyte-Kinglake Nature Conservation Reserve by constructing a corridor of continuous vegetation which will allow animals to re-inhabit Kinglake National Park.

Ninety-eight percent of Kinglake National Park was burnt in the February 2009 fires with a fire intensity never before experienced. The fire has resulted in a vast reduction in small mammal numbers, specifically the Brush Tailed Phascogale and Common Dunnart, in Kinglake National Park.

The Biolink project will enhance the connection with known populations of these species in unburnt forest and facilitate the recovery of these species.

There are two days where planting, seeding or fence maintenance will be carried out

Thursday 2nd of September 9am to 1pm (meet at nursery 23C10 or on site 9.30)

Saturday 18th of September 10am to 2pm  (meet onsite)
Some morning tea will be provided

Please bring weather appropriate clothing, gloves, food and water

The Watsons Creek Biolink site is easily accessed from Marshalls Road, approximately

10.3km from the township of St Andrews and approximately 61km from the Melbourne CBD.

The site is sloped and just a short walk from the carpark.

Came across your social blog Warrandyte Chat this morning while looking for the Firelinx website.  Great stuff!

Just wondered if you might like to know about my book launch this weekend at Panton Hill Firefighters Memorial  Park?  The book is about bushfires – it’s not about what happened on Black Saturday specifically, but more about why it happened (as it has in the past, and in all likelihood, will in the future).   So it might be of pretty general interest to Warrandyte folks.

Anyway, it is a fairly casual affair with afternoon tea and a bit of music, so all are welcome if they’ve had enough of pottery for the weekend!  People don’t have to book (that’s just so I know how many cakes to make).  If it is raining, we’ll have it at the Panton Hill Fire Station instead.

The Warrandyte Community Association AGM will be held on Thursday 22 July at 7.30pm at the Warrandyte Community Centre The brief AGM will be followed by a Public Meeting on the future of the Warrandyte Community Centre and other issues members may wish to raise. The future of the Community Centre has been the subject of much debate over the last few years and recently Manningham City Council has been involved in intense discussions with various interested parties. It has not been possible to consult all the residents who use the WCC and this is the chance for wider debate.

Ms Celia Haddock, Director of Community Services, Manningham City Council will address the meeting to bring us up to date. The WCA was originally formed after concern about the future of the Centre nine years ago. Fortunately, the Centre is not under threat but questions of how best to use the facility for the benefit of residents remain. We welcome Celia and look forward to hearing her views and yours.

Just a message to remind everyone about our Garage Sale this Saturday 9am
-1pm. We need lots of goodies to sell and lots of people to buy things.

You can drop things off at the church Wednesday and Thursday afternoon from
1pm until 8pm and all day Friday until 8pm.

If you have any bulky items you need picked up from your place please give
Ken a call to arrange pickup on Thursday or Friday (0407 839 718).

Tell your family, friends and neighbours they can donate goods, and they
can come, browse, eat, drink and buy.

It will be a great morning. See you there. Remember – one person’s junk
is another person’s treasure. So go and do a last sweep of your place and
find all those things you have kept ‘in case…’ – and that was 10 years
ago! And if you change your mind you can always – buy it back!
