The Warrandyte Community Association AGM will be held on Thursday 22 July at 7.30pm at the Warrandyte Community Centre The brief AGM will be followed by a Public Meeting on the future of the Warrandyte Community Centre and other issues members may wish to raise. The future of the Community Centre has been the subject of much debate over the last few years and recently Manningham City Council has been involved in intense discussions with various interested parties. It has not been possible to consult all the residents who use the WCC and this is the chance for wider debate.

Ms Celia Haddock, Director of Community Services, Manningham City Council will address the meeting to bring us up to date. The WCA was originally formed after concern about the future of the Centre nine years ago. Fortunately, the Centre is not under threat but questions of how best to use the facility for the benefit of residents remain. We welcome Celia and look forward to hearing her views and yours.

You can drop things off at the church Wednesday and Thursday afternoon from
1pm until 8pm and all day Friday until 8pm.

If you have any bulky items you need picked up from your place please give
Ken a call to arrange pickup on Thursday or Friday (0407 839 718).

Tell your family, friends and neighbours they can donate goods, and they
can come, browse, eat, drink and buy.

It will be a great morning. See you there. Remember – one person’s junk
is another person’s treasure. So go and do a last sweep of your place and
find all those things you have kept ‘in case…’ – and that was 10 years

Warrandyte Fire Brigade is hosting a Bushfire Safety EXPO on Saturday 17th October from 10am to 5pm. The EXPO will be taking place at the Warrandyte fire station, Harris Gully Road Warrandyte.

The EXPO will provide residents in high fire risk areas access to equipment, services and information that will help them prepare for the coming fire season. There will be a number of Information sessions, displays, trade stands, childrens activities and much more…

Information & Displays Include:

*CFA bushfire information sessions
*Community Fire Guard information
*Manningham Council – Advice on vegetation management and removal, Information on the Wildfire Management Overlay and general information.
*Parks Victoria & DSE – Information and maps showing planned fuel reduction burns in the Warrandyte area, firefighting equipment and vehicles
*Wildlife Rescue Information and advice

Trade stands will display:

*Fire fighting pumps, hoses and hand tools
*Water tanks and water saving products
*Sprinkler systems for bushfire protection
*Bushfire window shutters, radiant heat glazing and gutter protection
*Personal safety clothing and equipment
*Building code information
*Fire extinguishers, fire blankets and smoke alarms

Hi all:

For those of you who don’t know I have been stupid enough to put my name down for the Melbourne Marathon this year which is being held on the 11th of October. I am now into my last 3 weeks of my 12 week training schedule. Mostly it has been good but I’ve had a few hiccups along the way. Things are back on track now and I’m still hoping for a 3.30 hour marathon – well Simon is at least! My last marathon, 8 years ago, I managed in just under 4 hours so I think a 3.30 one is a big ask but I’ll be giving it my best shot. I expect a lot of pain, though, in the last 10km!!! To help me push through the pain and keep me running those last km I’ll be thinking of all the money my tired and battered legs are raising. I am raising money for Alzheimer’s Victoria along with my team mates (a few other mad people from work. Some doing the half marathon, some doing the full marathon) so if you feel able to support me and my team with our fund raising just click on the link below and donate whatever you feel you can. Kruses Road Community Fireguard Group held its first neighbourhood Rakeathon today to welcome new residents to the community.

With 20 members of the group plus Mathew’s parents Nick and Barbara and about 13 of their friends all helping out the atmosphere was terrific.

Works got off to a prompt start at 10am and piles of leaves and fallen timbers were rapidly stacking up before going into a 4” chipper Matt had hired.

A short break around 11:45 for tea and cakes was very welcome before getting straight back into it.

Elle and Barbara were very busy in the kitchen preparing a magnificent lunch at 2:00 pm with Nick manning the barbie.

A change of shift at the same time meant that momentum was kept going and many of us pressed on through to 4:30pm leaving the family with some final tidying up.

For a first time event we must be absolutely chuffed that it went so well.  It was not without opportunities to learn for the next time but all agreed that working together was a great motivator, fun and good for the community as a whole.
